What is Montessori?
Montessori is a philosophy and method of education that emphasizes and develops the potential of the child by utilizing special teaching material, a prepared environment and teachers who have been trained in the use of Montessori material and the philosophy behind them.
Montessori Philosophy
The most important years of growth are the first six years of life. A young child’s brain will develop at a much faster rate than a normal adult. A child in this crucial phase sets the foundation for learning, openness, curiosity and wonder that is life long. Montessori education provides ongoing stimulation that continually develops the child through these early years of life.
Montessori Education Environment
Montessori Kindergarten provides a high quality pre-school educational program following the Montessori approach. Two essential elements of the Montessori program are that the teachers are especially trained and a full range of the special equipment as designed by Dr. Maria Montessori is supplied.
Facilities
The centre is air-conditioned, however fresh air circulation is provided in preference, except for extreme hot or cold weather conditions. Hot water is provided for the children’s hand-washing and is temperature controlled to prevent scalding. Paper towels are provided rather than cloth to minimize the possibility of transfer of infections. Every electrical outlet is protected by a safety-breaker. The large outdoor space is secured with child-proof gates; soft fall surfaces protect climbing areas; gardens are safe and cleanliness of all facilities and equipment is given highest priority. The centre is distant from main roads so pollution from road traffic is minimal. There is a reserved parking in a quiet corner right at the door so drop-off in the morning and pick-up in the afternoon is easy and safe.
Specialty Programs
School Readiness Program: Literacy, numeracy and inquiring skills; promoting persistence and independence.
Music: Program involves the development of children’s awareness and love of music through singing, listening and movement to music.
Dance Development: Further dance development classes are available within the centre.
Physical Education: Children start with movement and coordination. They are exposed to various areas of sport and outdoor recreation that build strong and healthy bodies.
